Important: Try to have your workers arrive on a week day.

1. Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Explain the importance of obtaining a SIN for work and government services.
Guide them on how to apply for a SIN upon arrival.
Provide information about where and how to apply (e.g., Service Canada offices).

2. Mobile Phone
Suggest local mobile service providers and plans suitable for newcomers.
Explain the process of obtaining a SIM card or a new phone.
Offer assistance in setting up their mobile services, if needed.

3. Bank Account
Introduce the major Canadian banks and their services for newcomers.
Advise on the necessary documents required to open a bank account.
Provide information on banking essentials like debit cards, credit cards, and online banking.

4. Health Care and Insurance
Brief them on the Canadian healthcare system and how to access it.
Inform about the provincial health insurance plan and how to register.
Encourage getting private health insurance if there's a waiting period for provincial coverage.

Important:
Temporary workers are only eligible for public health insurance in some
provinces or territories. Make sure that workers and any dependants coming to Canada have
adequate health care insurance before they start work.

  1. Offer a welcome package with maps, local guides, and essential contacts.
  2. Provide a list of local community resources and support groups for newcomers.
  3. Encourage participation in orientation sessions or cultural integration programs.
